Thursday, 17 December 2020 - Issue #45

Greetings Friends...

I cannot believe that we are already in December!  The year is far spent, and much has happened, not only in our space, but the world at large has been affected by covid-19; to say that it has dramatically changed the way we live and do business would be an understatement.
The impact of lockdown in March has meant that schools have had to close and children have had be tutored at home. This has meant that we were unable to run our Teen Entrepreneur programme in schools, there were no ‘Awaken the Giant in You’ breakfast events during the year, and the much-anticipated year-end challenge to acknowledge our young entrepreneurs has had to be cancelled.
But out of catastrophe comes opportunity…
We quickly moved to conceptualise and implement a teen entrepreneur challenge to solve some of the most pressing issues to come out of the covid-19 pandemic and lockdown, and our young people rose to the challenge. The ideas which were presented were novel, practical, and implementable, and gave us a good indication that our young people are a wellspring of good business ideas, which can truly change the environments in which they operate.
This year has also given us the opportunity to critically review our programme, how it is being run, and how it is impacting our young people. This has spurred us into putting more hours into completing our online platform, called our Online Academy. Our Online Academy essentially takes our Teen Entrepreneur content onto a digital platform which can be accessed on a Smart device from anywhere in the world, this has truly revolutionised how we present entrepreneurship to our youth. We no longer have to be confined to a classroom; we are able to reach so many more learners, and in their preferred medium of communication.
A sincere and heartfelt thank you to our partners, Shoprite and E3, who have donated financially to our Online Academy in order to ensure that we are able to reward learners who have completed the online tutorials with our digital currency, called TSiRU. TSiRU’s are redeemable at Shoprite too. If you are a business who supports youth entrepreneurship, and you wish to make a once-off or ongoing financial contribution to our online entrepreneurship learning, you are able to do so via Given Gain:

The Year Ahead

As we excitedly look ahead to 2021, we will see the expansion of our Online Academy to include an e-Commerce platform which will act as a marketplace for young entrepreneurs to promote and sell their products and services to a global target audience. We anticipate that there will be huge interest in this platform, and look forward to welcoming new and innovative businesses in the New Year.
Our Online Academy will also have the capability to host virtual conferences and exhibitions in the New Year; exhibitions to showcase local entrepreneurial talent through products and services, while conferences will bring together leading professionals on the subject of youth entrepreneurship from around the world to find sustainable solutions to global challenges facing youth entrepreneurs, particularly in Africa.
We need more people and businesses to believe in our dream of making entrepreneurship content available to all our young people in South Africa through our Online Academy. With 1.5-million losing their income over the last year as a result of covid-19 and lockdown, we need to work collaboratively to give our youth hope and a brighter future in these trying times. If you wish to support our efforts, either financially or otherwise, please contact me on 082 907 0739.
Young people are able to here register to join our Online Academy
To our sponsors, strategic business partners, suppliers, educators, learners, and cheer leaders, thank you for everything you bring to SA Teen Entrepreneur, your support on our journey plays a vital role in bringing us to where we are today

We believe in the work that we do, we see it changing the lives of young people, we see how they in turn are able to re-invest what they have learned into their communities.
We therefore call on our loyal readers/champions/partners/stakeholders to assist us in our fundraising initiative.

Or share this link with the people in your circle to make it possible for us to reach more young people across the country, and the continent digitally!
