Greetings to our Teen Entrepreneur partners, associates, supporters, as well as our young aspiring business owners,

We trust that you’re all in good spirits as we slow down to conclude what has been a tumultuous year in the education sector, the economic sector, and the country at large.

If 2021 has taught us anything, it has to be that future sustainability lies in entrepreneurship education and embracing new technology. Investing in entrepreneurship education has the potential to yield good results because it focusses on soft and core skills such as problemsolving, team building, and other competencies such as learning-to-learn; initiative-taking; and cultural awareness.

SA Teen Entrepreneur (Teen Entrepreneur | Big Ideas Start Young) is more committed and passionate than ever before to work with all stakeholders and partners who have a vested interest in promoting and furthering entrepreneurship, particularly amongst our youth.

If we want to see more thriving young entrepreneurs, and real economic impact, we need to integrate the business community to support entrepreneurship at school level through their social responsibility initiatives in the form of funding, information-sharing, and mentorship programmes, as well as through their enterprise development initiatives by integrating small businesses into their supply chains.

Such collaborations are critical to ensuring that our young people are equipped to participate in a competitive job market; we hope to forge many such collaborations in 2022 to realise these objectives.

Our Online Academy

The launch of institutions of learning such as the UCT Online High School earlier this year confirms the need to embrace technology and to ensure that the appropriate infrastructure to do so is in place to be able to roll it out into all communities and educational facilities. In keeping with our objective of embracing technology and a virtual means of learning, we have been able to make significant progress to ensure that our digital platform, our Online Academy (Teen Entrepreneur) and learning management system works optimally so that users are able to extract maximum value.

Our Online Academy, a pioneer in the entrepreneurial learning space, allows champion teachers, learners, and youth more broadly to access literature on how to identify business ideas and to turn such ideas into viable businesses. Through a partnership with UCT’s Computer Science Department, we have been able to integrate Teen Market Place into the platform. Teen Market Place gives entrepreneurs the space to market and promote their products and services to a captive audience.

Further development of our digital platform in 2022 will see the addition of a mentorship component where young entrepreneurs will be able to receive guidance and advice from industry leaders and innovators in the areas of business growth, marketing, financial planning, embracing technology, and more.

We have also been approached by Oxford University and UCT’s Online High School for potential partnerships in the New Year, and excitedly look forward to seeing how these partnerships will unfold.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support us and believes in our vision to expose all young people in our country to entrepreneurship. A special word of thanks to Shoprite/Checkers, E3, the Fuchs Foundation, Centaur Asset Management (Pty) Ltd, and the Department of Basic Education for your support over the past year. We trust that we are able to achieve even bigger and better things together in 2022!

In conclusion, we’d like to wish everyone a blessed Festive Season and a prosperous 2022!

May you and those you love enjoy a restful time together, and be safe.
