Needless to say, South Africans have needed a bit of a pick-me-up in recent times. Enter the Ndlovu Youth Choir. This incredible choir of young, talented South Africans is uplifting local communities with song. They recently released a brand-new singalong in the form of ‘Jolene’ – country superstar, Dolly Parton’s, greatest hit.

Behind the scenes of this inspirational youth choir

You will have likely first been exposed to the amazing harmonies of the Ndlovu Youth Choir on America’s Got Talent in 2019. The youngsters made waves with their performances and stole the hearts of locals and Americans alike. Even more inspiring than their talent, ambition, and dedication is where these young people come from.

The choir was formed in 2009 in rural Limpopo’s Moutse Valley by the Ndlovu Care Group’s childcare community programme. The programme was aimed at providing children from disadvantaged backgrounds with the same opportunities as their more advantaged counterparts. Today, the choir is made up of thirty underprivileged individuals between the ages of 14 and 24 who have shown other young South Africans that it doesn’t matter how you start. It’s all about what you do to reach your dreams.

Despite the fact that the group lost out on the title in the show’s final, they were still signed to Simon Cowell’s world-renowned record label, Syco Entertainment, and released their debut album, ‘Africa’, at the end of last year.

From humble beginnings to an international record label signing, the soul-stirring performances of this young choir has united and inspired a nation.
